In 2020 Cwmdonkin Park received a gift of 25 cherry trees to celebrate the city’s link with Japan from the Sakura Cherry Tree project.
In Japan, businesses are funding the Sakura Cherry Tree Project through the Japan-British Society. Cherry blossom (sakura) is the national flower of Japan.
The Sakura Cherry Tree Project’s mission is to create a legacy for future generations. It is planting cherry trees in parks and public spaces across the UK.
The trees are particularly attractive when they blossom each spring.
The trees will also contribute to Swansea’s aims to be a green city, increase the number of trees and the area’s biodiversity.
Here’s a photo of the trees being planting back in 2020 ( social distancing in place!)
